1. General information
The general objective of this subject is that the student, from its contents, is able to understand the organization of knowledge and the conceptual framework of occupational therapy, as well as its philosophical foundations, its development and historical evolution, in order to establish the identity of the profession. In addition, the student must learn to identify the different models and frames of reference that will guide then in clinical practice. These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/): Goal 3: Health and wellness; Goal 4: Quality education; Goal 10: Reduction of Inequalities
2. Learning results
1. Explain the concept, rationale and history of occupational therapy.
2. Identify functions, areas of performance and professional organization of occupational therapy.
3. Recognize occupational therapy paradigms, models, frameworks and approaches.
4. Apply the theoretical bases of the models and reference frameworks in the resolution of practical cases.
3. Syllabus
Block I: Concept, foundations and history of Occupational Therapy
- Foundations, concept and definitions of Occupational Therapy.
- Functions, areas of performance and professional organization.
- History of Occupational Therapy
- The organization and use of knowledge: Paradigms, models and frameworks.
Block II: Conceptual models of Occupational Therapy practice
- Human Occupancy Model.
- Kawa model.
- Canadian Model.
- Australian Model.
- Ecological models.
Block III: Frameworks, models and approaches applied in Occupational Therapy
- Biomechanical model.
- Cognitive disabilities model.
- Sensory integration model.
- Motor control model.
- Cognitive-perceptual model.
- Reference frames: Psychoanalytic, Humanistic and Cognitive-behavioural.
- Related knowledge.
4. Academic activities
Participative master classes in large groups (85 h)
Explanation of the different contents of the subject, facilitating the reflection and assimilation of the fundamental concepts, oriented to the acquisition of competences and learning results, and supported by audiovisual aids.
Practical classes in small groups (25 h)
Practical activities in small work groups to complete and apply the theoretical knowledge acquired.
Teaching and other activities (25 h)
Tasks and work related to the different training activities. Course "Basic Digital Competence" of the Library of the University of Zaragoza.
Personal study and evaluation (140 h)
5. Assessment system
Evaluation of practices (30% of the final grade)
- Attendance is compulsory (maximum 20% of absences duly justified).
- Attitudes and skills demonstrated during the development of practical activities, active and efficient participation .
- Individual or small group assignments, which may include oral presentations.
- Application work of the course "Basic Digital Competence". Mandatory delivery according to the instructions that will be posted on Moodle.
If the evaluation activities of the practices are not passed or are not carried out, a practical exam will be taken in the official call
The grade of the evaluation of the practical part will be kept for the 2nd call of the same academic year, it will not be saved for the 2nd or successive enrolments in the subject.
Evaluation of theoretical contents (70% of the final grade)
Type of exam: exams may combine multiple-choice questions with short and essay questions.
- First midterm theory exam, at the end of the 1st semester. Eliminates topics of the subject from a grade of 5/10. 1st official call. The exam will include the content of the second semester for those who have passed the first midterm (the minimum grade to average with the first midterm is 5/10), and of the whole subject for the rest of the enrolled students.
- 2nd official call: The exam will include all the theoretical contents of the subject. The grades of the midterm exams will not be saved.
In order to pass the subject it is essential to pass each of the evaluation sections.
